With more people getting out and enjoying our wild places, there is increased impact on the places we travel. As good steward of our public lands we need to take steps to reduce our impact and take care of the places we play. Hammocks are a prime examples of minimum impact shelters.
The TechNest just took Best In Class in Gear Institute‘s 2018 head-to-head camping hammock test! Before we head out for a camping trip I always have a small checklist I run through to make sure I have everything I need for my desert dogs. It’s just the necessity’s and I’m sure every owner will have a different item they might bring along, but here are my 15 things I never leave home without.
Some items are just necessary for camping.  The problem is, we don’t always remember them until we’re out in the middle of the woods setting up for the night, when you need it most.  Unless you are headed on a serious multi-day backpacking trip, these items should fit nicely in your bag…or at least in your trunk! One of my main priorities when I establish my campsite is to keep as much of my gear off the ground. There are few easy ways to do this for cheap. As I begin setting up my tent and other items, I don’t want to set my bag directly on the wet ground. One of the easiest ways I have found to avoid this is by keeping a few carabiners with me and attached to my bag.  All it takes is a tree branch to hook onto the top of your bag to keep it from getting wet or dirty on the ground. You will want to find the right carabiner that fits your weight capacity need. Another solution for a common problem is where to put your portable light and trash when not in the tent. A very quick fix to this problem...
I find myself trying to take less and less gear when I go kayak camping or when I travel. These efforts led me to the Torch 250 Flashlight. I have been using the Torch for about 6 months now and it has exceeded my expectations. It has become a great tool to have on the water, while camping, and even while duck hunting.
During a recent outing with friends to go fishing on a local island, I discovered that hammocks are truly the best item you can have for camping. Beating out tents and chairs, hammocks are king when it comes to camping in total comfort. After discussing with other camping enthusiasts, here are the reasons why.
“Bikepacking,”—it’s like backpacking, only on a bicycle. Sometimes you just have to hop on your bike and go wherever the road takes you. Be one with your bike, be one with nature. But before you hit the road, make sure you have all the right supplies and gear to take along.   Hydration The most important part of any physical activity is staying properly hydrated. Start your morning off right with an exercise hydration mix like the Matcha Green Tea by Skratch Labs—it gives you optimal hydration with a special kick for the morning. Continue drinking water throughout the day. When water gets monotonous, turn to a sports drink alternative like nuun, which is packed with electrolytes and will alleviate cramps, help muscles function and burn energy efficiently. To carry all these liquids, look into water storage options like this Platypus 3.0L Reservoir that fits perfectly within your bike’s frame in a Tangle Frame Bag by Revelate Designs.   Snacks Protein is key to staying energized on long bikepacking trips. Nuts are packed with protein and are easy to eat while riding a bike. Also try some date rolls, which are dried dates rolled in coconut. If bars are more...
After the first time I used my Jetboil, I fell in love.  It is fast, convenient and packs down into itself with everything you need to get started.  The Jetboil I currently own and love is the JetBoil Flash. If you are new to Jetboil, here is an overview of the product.
