Designed by Asheville-based artist and Outdoor Afro volunteer leader, Leandra Taylor, the Kili Mapp Kili DoubleNest Print Hammock was inspired by Outdoor Afro’s Mt. Kilimanjaro Expedition in 2018. This year marks Leandra Taylor’s fifth year as an Outdoor Afro volunteer leader. She recaps her time with the organization and the trip that inspired this hammock design. I attended my first training in 2017 and it was just one of those life-changing experiences, walking into a room of 80 people that are all passionate about the outdoors was something I’ll never forget. I knew that’s where I should be. Through joining Outdoor Afro, I have found support in both my outdoor adventures and in affirming my identity as an artist. Outdoor Afro leaders have been the biggest contributors and encouragers to my creative process. They push me to put my art out there and to share it with the world. Art has always been my creative outlet and nature has always been my favorite muse. When I was younger, I loved to draw flowers and pollinators because of their vibrant colors and patterns. While I’ve always been creative, I haven’t always identified as an “artist,” but as someone who enjoyed drawing...

A man and his son play TrailfFyer in the woods.Meet the first-of-its-kind portable outdoor game designed to tag along on your adventures. We sat down with our product design team to get the full story behind the newest ENO endeavor: portable outdoor games. Behind the design  Q: What inspired the creation of the TrailFlyer? The TrailFlyer™ was inspired by fan-favorite and timeless games like Cornhole and Skee-Ball. When we surveyed the market of outdoor games we found that most all of them utilized poor quality materials, weren’t very portable, and lacked a sense of adventure. So we looked at the category of outdoor games through the lens of technical gear design and saw an opportunity to raise the bar when it comes to quality, durability and having fun outside. Adding the ENO Flare Q: What makes this game special/unique? How is it ENO-specific? We blended our expertise in technical product design with signature ENO features— premium, packable, colorful, sustainable— to create an original outdoor game that stands out from the crowd in both quality and user experience.  Much like finding the perfect ENO hammock spot, TrailFlyer™ invites you to get outside, explore, and find the perfect tree(s) to set up and play the game with friends or family. How...

Eagles Nest Outfitters’ HouseFlyTM Rain Tarp Part rain fly, part water-proof fortress, ENO’s newest tarp addition combines tent and hammock camping qualities. ASHEVILLE, N.C., Aug. 30, 2013 – Eagles Nest Outfitters, the leading provider of packable, camping hammocks, rebels against fall downpours with the announcement of their newest rain tarp, the HouseFlyTM. Rain cover meets bastion in this fly and tarp newbie that blends tent and hammock camping comforts. Joining a solid rank of weather resistant products, the HouseFly was inspired by the concept of four-season hammocking and is the only fly to feature tent-like coverage. Similar in shape to the rectangular ProFlyTM, the HouseFly is set apart by two sets of stowable doors complete with agile buckles. Incorporating an overlapping design, the doors can be fastened open or closed, offering complete protection from sideways driving wind and rain: an element common in winter camping. “We want our fans to be comfortable year round in their hammocks,” said Peter Pinholster, ENO’s co-owner and president. “This is a great solution for cold-weather hammocking.” Created with ultra lightweight silicone impregnated nylon, a material recognized for superior rain protection, the underside features PU coating and taped seams resulting in complete water resistance. Re-using and re-purposing, the environmentally conscious story behind ENO’s hammock strap transformation and their first pet product.   Asheville, NC – Dec.15, 2012 – Tailor-made, non-stretch polyfilament webbing makes for versatile hammock suspension systems, and strong, stylish canine collars and leashes. Welcome to the first pet product by Eagles Nest Outfitters, Inc., the original parachute hammock creator. A true repurposing story, ENO’s dog collar and leash are crafted using excess materials from their Atlas Suspension Strap manufacturing. The upcycled webbing, retaining the Atlas’ signature orange thread, is durable and flexible, ideal for dogs who lounge in the yard or tear through the country. ENO considered multiple uses for the excess Atlas webbing – including human belts and a substitute strap for other products – before deciding upon their first pet product. “We have a 100% webbing consumption with our other straps and so in the development of the Atlas Strap we ran into a problem we don’t normally have,” said ENO Designer Brendan Garvey. “Because of the webbing’s unique performance characteristics it just seemed natural to make a dog collar and leash.” By producing the collars and leashes, ENO has a use for the 5-7% loss of webbing for every...
