Founded over 50 years ago, AHS has grown from a small group of passionate hikers into a national leader in trail protection, volunteer engagement, and outdoor advocacy, all with a mission to ensure everyone can enjoy and preserve the hiking experience. AHS works nationwide, from backcountry routes to city greenways, to make sure trail access isn’t limited by geography, background, or experience.
AHS brings people together through volunteer events, mentorship programs, and community-led stewardship to care for trails and the public lands we all depend on. Their work spans from rugged backcountry paths to local greenways, always rooted in a belief that time outside should be welcoming, restorative, and available to everyone.
