Hammock top quilts are a lightweight, versatile alternative to sleeping bags. Designed to drape over you like a blanket, they provide warmth and comfort without the bulk, making them ideal for hammock camping across multiple seasons.
What is a hammock under quilt or underquilt? How does a hammock underquilt work?
A hammock underquilt is an insulated layer that hangs beneath your hammock to keep you warm in cooler temps. Unlike sleeping bags or pads, which get compressed under your body and lose insulating power, hammock underquilts stay lofted, creating a warm air pocket underneath and around you.
Do I need hammock insulation?
If you plan to hammock camp in anything cooler than a hot summer night (below 65°F) you’ll want insulation. Unlike tents, hammocks allow air to flow freely around you, which means heat escapes quickly from underneath. Even with layers or a warm sleeping bag, the compressed insulation beneath you won’t keep you warm.
