We sat down with Kathryn Wozniak and Nick Hunt, ENO’s Senior Industrial Designers, to dive deeper into the new DoubleLoft Hammock Chair and get all of your questions answered.
How the DoubleLoft Hammock Chair Was Designed
What inspired the DoubleLoft Hammock Chair?
Hammocks are incredible for solo relaxation, but sharing one usually means ending up on top of one another - not the best if you like some personal space. “We wanted to design a more social hammocking experience, a way to sit together comfortably without being piled on top of one another,” said Kathryn. The idea? A spacious, hammock-inspired, hanging chair for two people: the DoubleLoft Hammock Chair.
How was it designed?
“We started by pulling in materials we already loved, like our breathable, supportive, 100% recycled polyester mesh from our DayLoft Hammock,” Nick said. Then they combined it with elements from the best-selling Lounger DL Chair. “Customers love the padded arm rests, headrest, and reclining feel,” noted Kathryn. “So we blended the two products together to help create the DoubleLoft. You can see similarities between both, as well as some new features like the padded leg rest, added from product tester feedback during the design process.”
Early prototypes included literally joining two Lounger DL Chairs side-by-side, but they sank in the middle, making testers slide together. To fix this, they developed a more robust seam pattern to keep users separated yet close enough to share the experience. After nearly 10 prototypes and countless feedback sessions (including coworkers' families and kids, and ENO’s first Demo Day), the DoubleLoft Hammock Chair was born.
“Every material choice and detail matters,” said Nick. “Our final design keeps things intentionally simple: low to the ground, slightly reclined, plenty of cushion, and built for portability and long-lasting comfort.” Shock-corded spreader bars make setup and breakdown quick and easy, while the two-seat design is unmistakably a chair, one that floats and easily seats two people.
What makes the DoubleLoft different from other hammocks?
“Think of the DoubleLoft Hammock Chair as your favorite hammock, camp chair, and sofa all blended together,” described Kathryn. “It has the comfort of your hammock, portability of a camp chair, and togetherness of a couch. You can still curl up in it, but the hammock chair design keeps you open to your surroundings. It’s calming, supportive, and comfortable - like a hammock that lets you stay connected to the people (and views) around you.”
What makes it different from other hammock chairs?
Most hanging hammock chairs are enclosed with the fabric building walls around you. The DoubleLoft offers a spacious, ergonomic design that fits two people (or a person and a pet) comfortably without feeling crowded. Its deep seat pattern was fine-tuned to cradle two people side by side while keeping some space between you, so each person gets the comfort of their own chair, but closer together and suspended.
“We wanted the DoubleLoft to be as versatile as possible," said Nick. "Other hammock chairs often require a stand, but with the DoubleLoft, you can hang it using straps between trees or on a compatible stand, giving people more options to enjoy it anywhere."
How many people can sit in the DoubleLoft?
The ENO DoubleLoft Hammock Chair comfortably holds two adults, an adult and a kid, or an adult and a pet, with a maximum weight capacity of 500 lbs.
When used with the ENO Parkway Adjustable Hammock Stand or ENO SoloPod Hammock Stand, it maintains that capacity of 500 lbs. If using our hammock straps, refer to the directions and weight rating of each strap.
What features make the DoubleLoft more comfortable than a normal hammock?
“Comfort comes down to personal preference,” said Kathryn. “If you prefer to lay flat, cocoon, and take a nap, our DoubleNest is a better option. “
The DoubleLoft is designed for togetherness, not just solo lounging. Its 3D-contoured construction, ergonomic pattern, and soft, supportive fabric let you lean back and sway gently from a seated position. The custom pattern lets two people sit side by side without being on top of one another.
Balancing Comfort, Portability, and Compatibility
What makes the DoubleLoft Hammock Chair portable?
Like most ENO products, the DoubleLoft was designed from the get-go as a product that can be used at home or away. This presented unique challenges in creating a product that is comfortable, portable, and stable. “The secret lies in the fabric pattern,” said Kathryn. “For comfort and stability, we fine-tuned the pattern to be ergonomic for two people, to offer space between each user. Each person gets the comfort of a single chair, but in close proximity to one another.”
“We also needed a pattern that didn’t require a bulky, solid frame, which would add weight and reduce usability away from home,” Nick added. “We ditched the frame and opted for two shock-corded spreader bars that break down easily, and included a travel bag for ultimate packability. It’s the most portable two-person hammock chair on the market.”
Does the DoubleLoft include any recycled materials?
Staying true to ENO’s responsibly-made ethos, the DoubleLoft Hammock Chair was designed with people and planet in mind. Made using 100% recycled polyester fabric and mesh, bluesign® approved trims, and stainless steel and aluminum hardware, it’s durable, responsible, and built to last.
Can I leave my DoubleLoft outside all the time?
No. While it is impossible to design a product that lasts forever, the DoubleLoft comes close - as long as you take care of it. And in this case, it is pretty easy: when not in use, store the DoubleLoft in a dry location out of direct sunlight.
Relax Anywhere: Setup and Compatibility
How can I hang the DoubleLoft Hammock Chair between trees?
You can hang the DoubleLoft Hammock Chair between trees with our hammock straps. We’d recommend our Apollo Hammock Straps for backyard durability, or our Atlas Hammock Straps for a lighter option.
To get the perfect setup, find two healthy, mature trees about 10’- 15’ apart. Place your hammock straps up higher than usual, about 6-7’ from the ground. Clip the carabiners onto the strap. The perfect hanging angle is 30 degrees and the DoubleLoft should not be higher than 18” from the ground when in use. You can adjust the hanging angle and height of the DoubleLoft by clipping the carabiner into a different loop on the DoubleLoft and/or on your hammock straps.

Which hammock stands are compatible with the DoubleLoft?
The DoubleLoft Hammock Chair is compatible with all ENO hammock stands (not including the Parklite Hammock Chair Stand or SoloPod XL Hammock Stand). If using the ENOpod Hammock Stand, only one DoubleLoft can be used at a time due to its size.
The DoubleLoft pairs perfectly with the popular ENO Parkway Adjustable Hammock Stand and has some design details incorporated specifically to this pairing, including a reinforced fabric patch on the strap that ensures a silent sway, and a stand tether that connects the DoubleLoft via a fabric loop on the back to the base of the Parkway and prevents it from blowing around on windy days.
When using the DoubleLoft with the Parkway Adjustable Hammock Stand, we recommend extending the Parkway base to 8' mode, connecting each Parkway attachment point to the third hole from the top, and moving the DoubleLoft carabiner to the last loop. You can further adjust from there, but we found this to be the most comfortable setting.
Is the DoubleLoft suitable for camping, festivals, or just backyard use?
The DoubleLoft was designed for use at home and away, however you prefer to spend your time outside. Whether you’re lounging at a music festival, relaxing while car camping, or setting up a relaxing space in your backyard, the DoubleLoft delivers hammock-style comfort with the upright ease of a chair. Its lightweight, packable design, and compatibility with our hammock straps and hammock stands make it easy to bring along on outdoor adventures.
How easy is it to set up and pack down for travel?
Setup is quick and intuitive. Join the shock-corded spreader bars, and connect the carabiners to our hammock straps, hammock stand, or structurally sound attachment point, and you’re ready to go. No tools are needed.

Are the materials weather-resistant?
The DoubleLoft ENO Hammock Chair is made with 100% recycled polyester fabric and mesh featuring a C0 (zero fluorocarbons) DWR (durable water-repellent) finish to help resist light rain and moisture.
C0 DWR is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional PFAS that breaks down more easily and does not bioaccumulate in the environment.
How do I wash the DoubleLoft Hammock Chair?
If your DoubleLoft gets dirty, simply spot clean with soap or mild detergent and a sponge or a soft-bristle brush. Rinse thoroughly, and allow fabric to air dry.
To extend the life of your DoubleLoft, take it down during severe weather conditions or when not in use. For long-term storage, keep it in a dry, dark, or shaded place to prevent mildew.
