ENO'S STORY

HISTORY SINCE 1999

Welcome to
Eagles Nest Outfitters

How It All Began

The year was 1999. The Pinholster brothers set off in a rickety van full of hammocks, ready to revolutionize the world of hammocking. They set up shop at music festivals and various community gatherings, first in their home state of Florida, then travelling throughout the southeastern United States – the van serving as a storefront by day and sleeping quarters by night. Somewhere along the way, a hammock counter-culture was introduced: taking it wherever your adventures lead you. As avid travelers themselves, the founders of Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO) based the first product line around the ideal hammock for their lifestyle: easy to pack and adventure-ready. Over time, ENO took something great – hammocks – and made them even better by designing and patenting the very first knotless hammock suspension system, making it easier than ever to relax in a hammock. We have evolved to offer a range of hammocks and accessories to give people an all-access pass to relax wherever their heart desires. What started off as a grassroots company operating out of a van has grown into ENO as you know us today: a company that’s passionate about outdoor relaxation gear, pushing the envelope with innovative products, supporting organizations that help us protect and preserve the outdoors, and celebrating our community members, near and far. Today, we are based in Asheville, NC – home of the highest peaks of the iconic Blue Ridge Mountains – where we proudly share our hammocks and relaxation gear with members of ENO Nation around the globe.

What Matters to Us

ENO is an outdoor company comprised of outdoor enthusiasts – in other words, we love spending time in nature and we know our fellow ENO Nation members do, too. That’s why we feel it’s important to help protect and preserve our favorite wild places. We are always looking for different ways to serve and support the outdoor community, both locally and globally. From our start-to-finish sustainability practices to our nonprofit partnerships, we don’t just talk the talk – we walk the walk. We also aim to give the members of ENO Nation the freedom to relax wherever they choose. You want to get out there, explore, connect and relax – and we want to help you get there, from backyard to backcountry and everywhere in between.

Our Nonprofit Partners

We are passionate about people, the planet, and creating a future where everyone can enjoy their time outside. Through our partnerships, we’ve committed to promoting Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion in the outdoors, protecting and preserving our environment and public lands, and serving and supporting our communities through outdoor education and experiences.

Since 2018, we have committed to planting trees in an area of need with our partner, Trees for the Future (TREES). Hammocking would not be the same without trees, but we recognize that the benefits of more trees are far reaching. TREES trains impoverished farmers to sustainably revitalize their land through their Forest Garden Program, working primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa. They help change lives through regenerative agriculture practices, empowering impoverished communities to increase income and food security, all while increasing the world’s oxygen supply. Since 2018, ENO has funded over 2,770,936 trees, restoring over 693 acres of land, lifting 5,542 people from poverty and hunger, and capturing 100,197 metric tons of CO2 over a 20 year period.

We have pledged to give 1% of our annual sales to support an array of environmental causes through our partnership with 1% for the Planet. Working with 1% for the Planet means that we – and you, with every purchase – support several high-impact environmental nonprofits that help our planet thrive. We’ve also created special edition Giving Back Hammocks to support organizations that protect some of our favorite places and teach adventurers how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly. We donate from each sale of these hammocks to the National Parks Foundation, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, the Pacific Crest Trail Association, the Continental Divide Trail Coalition, Leave No Trace, Outdoor Afro, and Roots Studio with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the Gond Community of India. Each organization is represented by a hammock in a unique print.

As an outdoor gear company, we have partnered with the Outdoor Industry Association, Conservation Alliance, and Outdoor Gear Builders of WNC.

How We Embrace Sustainability

At ENO, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it is a theme that is woven through every aspect of our company and through every step of our production process. Our goal is to operate with integrity, respect, and accountability towards our community and our planet. How do we do this? We’re glad you asked. It all starts with our products – more specifically, the materials we use. We source high quality, responsibly-made materials (including post-consumer recycled content and bluesign®* approved fabrics) to make sure that our products are sustainable and long-lasting. We are committed to understanding the science behind the ingredients that we use in our products so that you can rest easy – literally and figuratively. We repurpose materials whenever it’s possible and our products are designed to minimize waste. As a bonus to our customers, these programs make sure that they can enjoy their ENO products for a long, long time. We also abide by an internationally-accepted Vendor Code of Conduct that promotes a fair, safe, respectful, and non-discriminatory working environment for the workers involved in making our products. If we want to keep going on adventures, we know that we need to do our part to operate sustainably – plain and simple.

Wondering what a bluesign®-approved fabric is? bluesign® is an independent authority that works with different companies to come up with solutions for sustainable processing and manufacturing. Their Bluesign Restricted Substances List is a system that manages everything from chemical hazards to workplace safety to environmental impacts during material production. On top of working with bluesign®, we have a testing program in place with an accredited third-party lab so that we can stay on top on priority chemicals of concern, as established by the outdoor industry.

Where We’re Going

We will continue to make the best outdoor relaxation products and we want to keep making them responsibly. We will continue to inspire and improve access for our community of adventure seekers to get outside – all while protecting and preserving the environment through best practices and strategic partnerships.
